Essential Tools for Difficult Conversations

A Live, Practice-Based NVC Introductory Workshop

Learn practical communication tools you can use right away, when it matters most.

Do you ever find yourself stuck in conversations that matter,  at work, at home, or with people you care deeply about?

Do difficult conversations spiral into defensiveness, misunderstanding, or silence?

You’re not alone. And there are concrete tools that can help.

Essential Tools for Difficult Conversations is a practical, supportive introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC),  designed to help you stay grounded, speak honestly, and listen effectively even when emotions are high or stakes feel real.

This workshop is for anyone who wants real skills, not scripts, and a way to navigate hard conversations with clarity, integrity, and compassion.

What You’ll Gain

Through this highly interactive three-part online workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  • Speak in ways that increase the likelihood that you’ll actually get what you want, in any given relational moment.
  • Express yourself clearly and honestly, without blame, escalation, or confusion
  • Listen in ways that lower defensiveness and build real understanding
  • Navigate conflict without shutting down or attacking, even in charged moments

How the Workshop Works

Led by Adam Berman, founder of Urban Adamah and an experienced NVC practitioner with over 15 years of practice, this workshop emphasizes learning by doing.

This workshop includes:

  • Three live Zoom sessions (2.5 hours each, with breaks!)
  • Weekly 30-minute paired practice calls to build confidence and fluency
  • Short readings to support integration between sessions
  • Guided exercises, small-group practice, and real-life examples

You’ll leave with a practical communication toolkit , not theory, not jargon, and not something you forget after the workshop ends.

Who This Workshop Is For

This workshop is a good fit if you want to:

  • Feel more confident and grounded in difficult conversations
  • Communicate without defensiveness, blame, or withdrawal
  • Strengthen relationships at work, at home, and in community
  • Lead, formally or informally, with empathy and clarity
  • Whether you’re navigating family dynamics, workplace challenges, or leadership responsibilities, these tools are foundational and widely applicable.

FAQ

Find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about my work. If your question isn't listed, please feel free to contact me directly.

How do we know if we're a good fit?

We begin with a relaxed, complimentary conversation about your goals and challenges. I’ll share my approach, and we’ll do a short coaching session so you can experience what working together feels like. There’s no pressure—if it’s a good fit, you’ll know.

Who do you typically work with?

I work primarily with senior leaders in the fields of climate change and progressive politics.

What challenges do clients typically bring to a coaching session?

Clients often come to coaching feeling stretched, overloaded, or stuck—despite being deeply committed to meaningful work. Common themes include navigating high-stakes leadership decisions, managing stress and burnout, communicating more effectively, leading through complexity and change, and finding greater clarity, ease, and alignment in how they lead and live.

Is everything we discuss confidential?

Everything we discuss is confidential. When coaching is sponsored by your organization, we’ll jointly develop a Coaching Priority Plan to share with your supervisor or board, and you’ll provide a short closing report summarizing outcomes. The content of our sessions remains private.
